Know What is Happening Around You

The press today is an army with carefully organized weapons, the journalists its officers, the readers its soldiers. But, as in every army, the soldier obeys blindly, and the war aims and operating plans change without his knowledge. The reader neither knows nor is supposed to know the purposes for which he is used and the role he is to play. There is no more appalling caricature of freedom of thought. Formerly no one was allowed to think freely; now it is permitted, but no one is capable of it any more. Now people want to think only what they are supposed to want to think, and this they consider freedom.

‘Clear Vision, Simple Vision’: SIDP President.

Our vision is clear, simple and aims to provide ethical leadership as we try to put together the torn pieces of the country in the upcoming 2010 national general election.

Solomon Islands Democratic Party (SIDP) President Fr. John Ini Lapli echoed these statements during the launching of the Party Platform in Honiara yesterday.

Meanwhile, SIDP Leader and the Caretaker Minister for Planning and Aid Coordination, Mr. Steve Abana declared that the party will contest with a clear purpose that is to provide the alternative positive visionary political leadership with the determination to build the foundation for a just society and a vibrant democracy.

At the launching yesterday, Mr. Abana added that SIDP recognized three most strategic challenge facing Solomon Islands in the past into this present time.

Some of the reforms which were initiated by the SIDP under the CNURA leadership are; the Political Party Reform Bill which was fully debated both in public and in parliament.

“If granted the mandate, the party will re-table the political Party Bills in the next parliament,” Mr. Abana said confidently.

The establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission which aims to bring about the social cohesion in the country, and the establishment of the taskforce team to undertake study for creation of an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) which is an ongoing task.

The challenge however, was resound by the guest speaker Sir Ellison Pago that, the Party can preaches beautiful policies, but the Party itself must have quality leaders with vision for the country and the people.
